These eggshells have been filled with Snowy White Wax and then given a ‘yolk’ of yellow wax.

Light these Easter Egg Candles and float them in a bowl of water.   A fun thing to do with kids over Easter!

Dust the inside of the glass with glitter before filling up the glass with melted Gelwax.

Butterfly & Flower Gel candles

Buy plastic flowers or foil butterflies (or similar) from your local craftshop.  Use plastic or foil objects in a gel candle rather than objects of a flammable material like wood or paper.

You will need:
a heart shaped soap mould
wax
purple dye and red dye
wick for a floating candle
an electric stove, a jug,  a thermometer
3 cardboard hearts
craft paint & gold spray paint

Step 2

Melt some wax and dye it purple.    Make sure that it is no hotter than 70C and pour some into the mould.
Allow it to cool somewhat.   As soon as a skin forms on top, gently press the wick down and centre it.
The cooling ’skin’ of wax will keep it in place.
Now set the mould aside to cool.

Step 3

Melt more wax and dye it pink (add a small amount of red wax).
Check whether the first layer of purple wax has cooled down.  If it has, you are ready to pour  
the next layer.    Gently pour a layer of pink wax over the purple wax.
Allow to cool.

Step 4

Remelt the wax and add more red dye to make it darker.  Pour the final layer of wax into the mould and allow to cool.

Step 5

Cut 2 cardboard hearts, the one bigger than the other.  Paint one red and spray paint the other gold. 
Remove the candle from the mould and assemble your Valentine’s table decoration.

Remember to prime the wick before using it.  Dip the wick in melted wax, then straighten and allow to cool.  Once the wick has been primed it is much easier to thread through metal wick sustainers: http://www.candledeli.co.za/index.php/sustainers/.    Choose wick sustainers to anchor your candle wick to the bottom of a glass, jar or other container.

Snip the wick after blowing it out as a ball of ash tends to form at the tip if the wick is relit several times.
